Abstract
This section specifies the test conditions, conditioning tests, test procedures, and environmental test markings for sand and dust tests.
This section applies to optical instruments, instruments equipped with optical components, and optical components.
The purpose of this test is to study the degree of change in the optical, thermal, mechanical, chemical, and electrical characteristics of the samples under the influence of sand and dust, especially to study the failure of moving parts (such as sliding surfaces, bearings, contactors, control devices, gears) or unacceptable surface wear. This test is not used to determine the wear resistance to coarse sand and dust.
