Abstract
This standard specifies the technical solutions for multi-channel digital audio compression and decoding, including: code stream format (syntactic structure and semantics), decoding process, and technical requirements for each decoding technology module. It also provides informative suggestions and implementation methods for the encoding part that adopts this technology.
This standard is applicable to the storage or transmission of high-quality multi-channel digital audio on storage media with limited capacity or channels with limited bandwidth, such as digital audio broadcasting, digital television (including satellite, terrestrial, and cable transmission methods), home audio systems, digital cinemas, laser disc players, online streaming media, and personal multimedia players.
