Abstract

This document specifies a naming system for thermoplastic materials made from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (PE-UHMW), which can serve as a basis for classification.
In this document, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (PE-UHMW) refers to polyethylene materials with a melt flow rate (MFR) of less than 0.1 g/10 min at a temperature of 190 °C and a load of 21.6 kg.
Note: GB/T 21461.2 adds an additional performance test item for measuring the melt volume flow rate (MVR) under conditions of 230 °C and a 21.6 kg load using a triple-section die (with an inner diameter of 3.628 mm), which is very valuable for characterizing the performance of certain PE-UHMW materials (such as pipe materials).
Different types of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene thermoplastic materials are distinguished by a classification system based on the following specified characteristic performance values, as well as recommended applications and/or processing methods, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers, and reinforcing materials:
a) Viscosity (specific viscosity);
b) Tensile strength at elongation;
c) Double notch impact strength of simply supported beams.
This document applies to all PE-UHMW homopolymers and copolymers with a monomer content of less than 50% of 1-olefin monomers and a monomer content of no more than 3% of non-olefin monomers with functional groups.
This document applies to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (PE-UHMW) thermoplastic materials that are typically supplied in powder, granular, or crushed form, either unmodified or modified with colorants, additives, fillers, etc.
This document does not imply that materials with the same name must have the same performance. This document does not provide the engineering data, performance data, or processing conditions data required to describe the special applications and/or processing methods of materials. If necessary, these additional
