GB/T 6739-2006 Paints and varnishes—Determination of film hardness by pencil test
Abstract
1.1 This standard is one of a series of standards related to the sampling and testing of color paints, varnishes, and related products. This standard specifies a method for determining the hardness of paint films by pressing a pencil with a known hardness rating onto the paint film. This test can be conducted on a single layer of color paints, varnishes, and related products, or on the top layer of a multi-layer system. 1.2 This rapid and economical testing method is effective for comparing the pencil hardness of different coatings. This method is even more effective for providing a relative grading of a series of painted samples with significant differences in pencil hardness. This method is only applicable to smooth surfaces.
