Abstract
This section specifies the determination methods for the thickness and unit area mass of asphalt roofing waterproofing membranes. The thickness is suitable for measuring most asphalt membranes, including those with mineral materials. The thickness measurement is not suitable for membranes with obvious surface structures or reinforced fiber backing. For these products, the unit area mass should be used instead of thickness. The determination of unit area mass is suitable for verifying the declared values claimed by manufacturers, but it is not suitable for materials with holes.
