Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and marking, order content, dimensions, shape and weight, technical requirements, inspection items, requirements and methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, and quality certificates for steel wires used in musical instruments. This standard applies to cold-drawn steel wires with a circular cross-section and a diameter of 0.07mm to 3.00mm used in the manufacture of piano strings and other musical instrument strings (hereinafter referred to as "steel wires"), and can also be used in the manufacture of springs for cameras and other precision instruments and meters.
