Scope

Scope: This document specifies the requirements for ewes, breeding rams, synchronous estrus methods, semen collection, semen quality inspection, semen dilution, insemination, and artificial insemination records, etc. This document is applicable to the technical operations of synchronous estrus in Alabaster cashmere goats, semen collection from breeding rams, and artificial insemination. Main technical content: 3 Terms and definitions. The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document. Artificial vagina - a tool simulating the vagina of female animals for semen collection. The artificial vagina for goats has a structure similar to that of the vagina of adult females. Sperm motility - the percentage of sperm moving linearly in semen at 37°C. 4 Requirements for ewes - Breeding ewes must be over 10 months old and weigh 70% of the adult weight of the breed. Parity ewes generally have fewer than 6 litters, and the postpartum period is 60 days or 30 days after weaning. - Breeding ewes should be kept in separate groups. Provide high-quality feed for more than 30 days before mating and supplementary feed after mating. 5 Requirements for breeding rams - Rams aged 1 to 6 years, meeting breed requirements and of first-class quality or higher. - Supplementary feed for rams during the mating period: 0.5 to 1.5 kg of carrots, 10 to 15 g of salt, and 2 to 4 eggs per day. Exercise the rams 1 to 2 hours before morning semen collection. - Train the rams to ejaculate 1 week to 2 weeks before mating and ejaculate once every 2 days before mating. Other specific feeding and management practices shall follow NY/T 3052. 6 Synchronous estrus methods 6.1.1 Progesterone sponge method - After artificial immobilization of ewes, disinfect the vulva with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution and wipe it clean with a paper towel.
