Scope

This document specifies the general structural requirements for copper-core power, control, and instrumentation cables used in fixed electrical systems with a rated voltage of 18/30 (36) kV and below on ships and offshore (mobile and fixed) facilities, and describes the corresponding test methods. The fixed systems described in this document include those subject to vibration (due to the vibration of ships or devices) or motion (due to the motion of ships or devices), but do not include those subject to frequent bending. Cables suitable for frequent or continuous bending are described in detail in other IEC standards, such as IEC 60227 (all parts) and IEC 60245 (all parts), and their use is limited to situations where they are not directly exposed to the marine environment, such as portable tools or household appliances. This document does not include the following types of cables: - Optical cables; - Submarine cables and umbilical cables; - Data cables and communication cables; - Coaxial cables.
