Scope

This document describes the test method for evaluating the consistency of digital images recorded on silver-halide black-and-white microfilm, with the input including both digital native documents and digital documents generated by document scanners. This document establishes quality control procedures for optimizing and maintaining the quality of output to microfilm over time. It also emphasizes the use of commercial test plates and ISO-approved standard test plates. The test method is based on visual inspection of the output images from office document scanners and digital native test plates on microfilm recorders. This document is applicable to evaluating the output quality of document scanners used in offices and microfilm recorders used to record scanned images onto microfilm. Depending on the functionality of the microfilm recorder, the microfilm output can be in any common format, including 16-mm, 35-mm, and 105-mm roll microfilm, as well as microfilm flat sheets.
