Scope

This article proposes the functional requirements that foundation works should meet based on the working state of the foundation. 1. **Regarding foundation deformation**: The article stipulates that the selection of the foundation bearing capacity should aim to prevent long-term plastic deformation in the foundation. At the same time, it should consider the deformation characteristics and deformation amounts of various buildings and municipal facilities under this condition. Due to the long-term time effect of foundation soil deformation, compared with materials such as reinforced concrete and masonry, it belongs to materials with large deformation. Based on the analysis of a large number of foundation engineering accidents, most accidents are closely related to excessive foundation deformation or uneven settlement. 2. **Regarding foundation stability**: The article proposes that the foundation should have the ability to resist overturning and sliding. Typically, accidents caused by foundation instability are often catastrophic, such as building collapses, soil sliding, and landslides in mountainous areas. 3. **Sufficient durability performance**: This refers to the degradation of the performance of the foundation and foundation materials in the specified working environment during a predetermined period, which should not lead to an unacceptable failure probability of the structure. 4. **Pit engineering**: It refers to temporary technical measures such as pit support, groundwater control, and environmental protection taken to ensure the safety and stability of the underground space formed by excavation during the construction of underground structures. Since pit excavation involves the safety of the surrounding environment, the support structure should not only meet the requirements of the main structure construction, but also meet the safety requirements of the surrounding environment. Therefore, the design and construction of the pit support structure shou
