GB/T 40611-2021 Plastics—Determination of aerobic biodegradation of non-floating plastic materials in a seawater/sandy sediment interface—Method by measuring the oxygen demand in closed respirometer
Basic Information
Scope
This document describes a test method for determining the extent and rate of aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials on marine sandy sediments at the interface of seawater and the seabed by measuring the oxygen consumption in a closed respirometer.
The determination of aerobic biodegradation can also be obtained by monitoring the release of carbon dioxide. The method is described in GB/T 40611-2021.
This test method simulates the habitat environment of different seawater and sandy areas in the ocean under laboratory conditions, such as the benthic zone where sunlight shines on the seabed (light zone), which is called the nearshore zone in marine science.
The determination of the biodegradation of plastic materials and other solid materials buried in marine sediments is not within the scope of this document.
The conditions described in this document may not be consistent with the optimal conditions for maximum biodegradation.
