GB/Z 18620.5-2025 Code of inspection practice—Part 5:Recommendations relative to evaluation of gear measuring instruments

Scope

This document provides additional support information and examples for the use of ISO 18653, and provides evaluation and calibration procedures for gear involute, helical line, tooth pitch, radial runout, and tooth thickness measurement processes.
This document describes the evaluation and alignment methods for instrument units such as top jigs, guide rails, and probe systems, and also provides recommendations for establishing appropriate environmental and statistical data evaluation procedures.
This document also covers the application of gear samples in the U95 measurement process for uncertainty evaluation. This document provides guidance on applying the measurement process to product gear inspection, including applicability and recommended U95 uncertainty limits based on the precision tolerance of the product gear to be inspected.
Many of the recommendations in this document can also be applied to the measurement of worms, worm gears, bevel gears, and gear cutting tools.
