Scope

This document describes the method of measuring the pitting potential of stainless steel under dynamic potential control. This document is applicable to the measurement of the pitting potential of stainless steel (austenitic, ferritic-austenitic, ferritic, and martensitic stainless steel). Compared with the test method using constant potential [1][2], the main advantage of this method is the rapidity of the test, allowing the pitting potential to be measured in a single potential scan. The pitting potential measured in this document can be used as a relative indicator of performance, for example, to compare the relative performance of different batches of stainless steel. The test described in this document is not intended to determine whether actual pitting actually occurs under real service conditions.
