Scope

This document specifies the minimum requirements for the function and performance evaluation of (interlocking) differential protection reflecting the faults of AC motors, generators, and transformers. This document also stipulates the methods of recording and publishing the results of performance tests. This document applies to differential protection functions whose operating characteristics can be defined on the coordinate plane of differential current and braking current, including protection function specifications, measurement characteristics, excitation compensation, additional braking or lockout (for over-excitation and inrush current), and start-up and delay characteristics. This document also applies to differential quick-trip protection functions, which are typically combined with rate braking differential protection functions to form a differential relay.
