GB/T 19671-2022 Safety of machinery—Two-hand control devices—Principles for design and selection

Scope

This document specifies the safety requirements for two-hand control devices (THCDs) and the interdependence between output signals and manually operated control devices.
This document presents the main characteristics of THCDs used to achieve a safe state, along with a combination of functional characteristics for three types of THCDs. This document is not applicable to devices intended for use as enabling devices, maintaining operation devices, or dedicated control devices.
This document does not specify which machines require the use of THCDs, nor does it specify the type of THCDs to be used in specific applications. Additionally, although guidelines are provided, this document does not specify the distance between THCDs and hazardous areas (see 8.8).
This document provides design requirements and selection guidelines for THCDs based on risk assessment, including prevention of abandonment, avoidance of failures, and compliance verification.
Note 1: THCDs only provide protection for their operators.
Note 2: For specific machines, it may be specified in Class C standards whether it is appropriate to use two-hand control devices as protective devices. If there are no standards or if it is not appropriate, the machine manufacturer is responsible for conducting a risk assessment and determining the applicable protective measures.
This document applies to all THCDs using various energy sources, including:
——THCDs that are fully assembled and can be installed directly;
——THCDs that need to be assembled by the machine manufacturer or integrator.
