Scope

This standard specifies the test instruments, test requirements, test methods, test steps, data processing, recordkeeping, and reporting for the transmission efficiency of gear mechanisms on a test bench. This standard is applicable to the efficiency measurement of gear mechanisms with independent enclosed housings that transmit power. This standard is not applicable to the efficiency measurement of certain special units, such as compressors, pumps, and engines integrated with transmission gears, or gear mechanisms not primarily intended for power transmission.
