YBB 00232003-2015 Determination of Boron Oxide
This method is applicable to the determination of the content of boron trioxide in various pharmaceutical glass packaging materials. The method involves grinding and drying the test sample, melting it with alkali, and decomposing it with acid. Calcium carbonate is then added to form calcium borate, which is easily soluble in water and can be separated from other impurities. Mannitol is added to quantitatively convert the borate into alcohol borate. Phenolphthalein is used as an indicator, and the borate is titrated with sodium hydroxide titrant. The content of boron trioxide is calculated based on the volume of sodium hydroxide titrant consumed.
