This document describes a laboratory method for measuring the airborne sound insulation of building components. These building components include: walls, floors, doors, windows, shutters, external wall components, external walls, glass, small building components (such as ventilation devices, air vents, outdoor air intakes, electrical cable trays, and pipe penetration sealing systems), and composite components (such as walls and floors with acoustic linings, suspended ceilings, or floating floors). This document is applicable to the measurement of sound insulation of building components. The measurement results are suitable for comparing and grading the sound insulation performance of building components, which helps to design building products with certain sound insulation performance and estimate the on-site sound insulation performance of completed buildings. The sound insulation measurements in this document are conducted in laboratories where lateral sound transmission is suppressed. Under the condition that the effects of lateral sound transmission, boundary conditions, and total loss factors on sound insulation performance are not considered, the measurement results are not suitable for directly representing the on-site sound insulation performance of building components.
