This standard specifies the general requirements for the design, manufacture, and selection of protective devices used to protect personnel from mechanical hazards. This standard provides information on other hazards that affect the design and manufacture of protective devices. This standard applies to protective devices for machinery produced after its publication. This standard applies to both fixed and movable protective devices. This standard does not apply to interlocking devices, the requirements for which are specified in ISO 14119. This standard does not specify requirements specifically related to dedicated systems for motor vehicles, such as ROPS (rollover protection structures), FOPS (falling object protection structures), and TOPS (tipping protection structures), nor does it specify requirements related to dedicated systems for lifting machinery.
