This document specifies the requirements for software tools to support the following system engineering tasks listed in IEC 614991: -- Specification of function block types; -- Functional specification of resource types and device types; -- Specification, analysis, and verification of distributed industrial process measurement and control systems (IPMCS); -- Configuration, implementation, operation, and maintenance of distributed IPMCS; -- Information exchange between software tools. It is assumed that such software tools can be used in the engineering support system (ESS) environment described in IEC 614991. The specification of the entire life cycle of industrial process measurement and control systems, or the specification of all tasks and activities required to support IPMCS throughout the entire life cycle, is beyond the scope of this document. This may lead to the expansion or modification of the requirements specified in this document. However, other standards that specify such tasks and activities can expand or modify the requirements specified in this document.
