YY/T 1552-2017 Implants for surgery—Measurements of open-circuit potential to assess corrosion behaviour of metallic implantable materials and medical devices over extended time periods
Abstract
This standard specifies the method for measuring the long-term open-circuit potential of implantable materials and devices immersed in test environments related to body fluids, using a standard corrosion electrolytic cell to study the electrochemical corrosion performance of the devices.
This method of monitoring the open-circuit potential can also be combined with static or dynamic mechanical load testing.
This standard is particularly suitable for metal materials that form corrosion-resistant passivation films, a typical example of which is material used for surgical implants.
This test method is intended for studying a single metal material or alloy. This standard is not applicable to dissimilar material combinations, as this requires special consideration in terms of measurement and interpretation of results.
