This section specifies the technical requirements for the design and construction of on-site assembled aboveground vertical cylindrical flat-bottomed steel main containers for liquefied natural gas storage. If a secondary container is provided, it may be made of steel or concrete, or a combination of both. This section does not include inner tanks made solely of prestressed concrete.
This section sets out the principles and applicable rules for the structural design of "containers" during construction, testing, trial operation, operation (including failure), and decommissioning. If auxiliary equipment such as pumps, pump wells, valves, pipelines, instruments, ladders, etc. do not affect the structural design of the storage tank, this section does not impose relevant requirements on them.
This section applies to the design of storage tanks for products with a two-phase state (i.e., liquid and vaporized gas) with an atmospheric pressure boiling point lower than the ambient temperature. By cooling the product to a temperature equal to or slightly lower than its atmospheric boiling point and maintaining a slight overpressure in the storage tank, the equilibrium between the liquid and gaseous phases can be maintained.
This section applies to storage tanks with a maximum design pressure not exceeding 50kPa (500mbar). For higher pressures, refer to EN 13445, Parts 1 to 5 (References [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]).
The operating temperature range of the gas to be stored should be between 0℃ and -165℃.
The storage tank is used for large-scale storage of low-boiling point liquefied natural gas (LNG).
