This document specifies the general definitions, usage conditions, structural requirements, technical characteristics, and verification requirements for low-voltage complete switchgear and control equipment.
Note: In this document, the term "complete switchgear" (see 3.1.1) refers to low-voltage complete switchgear and control equipment.
For the purpose of determining the conformity of complete switchgear, the requirements of IEC 61439-2 and subsequent related parts apply together with the requirements referenced in this document. For complete switchgear not covered by IEC 61439-3 and subsequent parts, IEC 61439-2 applies.
This document applies only to complete switchgear that meets the requirements of the following relevant complete switchgear standards:
——Complete switchgear with a rated voltage of not more than 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC;
——Complete switchgear designed for a nominal frequency of not more than 1,000 Hz for the incoming power supply;
——Complete switchgear intended for indoor and outdoor use;
——Fixed or mobile complete switchgear with or without a casing;
——Complete switchgear used in conjunction with equipment for power generation, transmission, distribution, and energy conversion, as well as equipment for controlling energy consumption.
This document does not apply to individual devices and fully assembled components that comply with their respective product standards, such as motor starters, fuse-type switches, power electronic converter systems and equipment (PECS), switching power supplies (SMPS), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), basic drive modules (BDM), complete drive modules (CDM), speed-regulated electric drive systems (PDS), and other electronic equipment.
