Abstract
This standard specifies a gas chromatography method for determining the content of a specific rosin acid in resinous rosin by separating the volatile methyl esters of rosin acid using a capillary column. The main purpose of this method is to identify the resinous rosin of specific types of pine trees, rather than for quantitative analysis of resinous rosin. If quantitative analysis is required, it should be carried out in accordance with the internal standard method specified in ASTM D5974.
