Abstract

This document specifies a method for measuring the particle size distribution by analyzing the light scattering characteristics of particles in various two-phase systems, as well as a method for validating measurement instruments. These particles include powders, sprays, aerosols, suspensions, emulsions, and bubbles in liquids. This document does not address the specific requirements for measuring the particle size distribution of specific materials. This document is applicable to particles with a diameter range of 0.1 μm to 3 mm. With some specially designed instruments and auxiliary conditions, the particle size analysis range can be extended to less than 0.1 μm or more than 3 mm. This technology assumes that particles are spherical in the optical model. Therefore, for spherical and non-spherical particles, the reported particle size distributions are obtained by matching the theoretical value of the scattering pattern volume of spherical particles with the measured scattering pattern value. For non-spherical particles, the particle size distribution results may differ from those obtained by methods based on other physical principles such as sedimentation and sieving.
