This document specifies the technical requirements for electroplating layers and coating systems on steel fasteners, and the dimensional characteristics also apply to fasteners made of copper or copper alloys.
This document specifies the requirements for hydrogen embrittlement (see 44), and provides recommendations for reducing the risk of hydrogen embrittlement (see Appendix B).
This document applies to fasteners electroplated with zinc and zinc alloys (zinc, zinc-nickel, zinc-iron) and cadmium, primarily for corrosion resistance and other functional characteristics:
—— with or without conversion coatings;
—— with or without protective layers;
—— with or without surface coatings;
—— with or without lubrication (self-lubricating and/or additional lubrication).
Only the dimensional requirements for ordinary threaded fasteners in this document apply to other electroplating layers and coating systems (tin, tin-zinc, copper-tin, copper-silver, copper, silver, copper-zinc, nickel, nickel-chromium, copper-nickel, copper-nickel-chromium).
The requirements for electroplated fasteners in this document take precedence over other documents related to electroplating.
This document applies to ordinary threaded bolts, screws, studs, and nuts, as well as non-ordinary threaded fasteners and non-threaded fasteners, such as washers, pins, clamps, and rivets.
Note: Electroplating is also applicable to stainless steel fasteners, with the aim of lubrication to prevent thread engagement.

This document does not specify the weldability or coating performance of fasteners.
