Abstract

This part of GB/T 18802 applies to gas discharge tubes used in telecommunications, signal transmission, and low-voltage power distribution networks with a nominal system voltage not exceeding 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC. A gas discharge tube (GDT) is defined as a sealed device with two or three metal electrodes, featuring a single or multiple gaps. The internal mixed gas and pressure are controlled to protect equipment and/or personnel from transient overvoltages. This part provides the characteristics and application circuits of two-pole or three-pole gas discharge tubes. However, it does not cover the technical requirements for complete surge protectors, nor does it address all technical requirements for using gas discharge tubes in electronic equipment. In these applications, ensuring the precise compatibility between the performance of the gas discharge tube and the tolerance of the surge protector is of critical importance.
