This document specifies the classification and naming, characteristics, normal operating conditions, and technical requirements of explosion-proof low-voltage electromagnetic starters for mining use, describes the corresponding test methods, and stipulates the inspection rules as well as requirements for marking, packaging, transportation, and storage. This document applies to the design, manufacture, and inspection of explosion-proof low-voltage electromagnetic starters (hereinafter referred to as "starters") used in coal mines for controlling the local or remote start and stop, reversal, and two-speed operation of three-phase squirrel-cage asynchronous motors, while providing protection for the motor and related circuits, under rated frequencies of 50 Hz and voltages of 1,140 V or lower. The provisions of this document regarding overload protection (see 7.3.10 and 8.2.12) do not apply to embedded overheat protection devices installed inside the motor.
