This document specifies the requirements for the suitability of motorcycles, including:

—— Approval measures;
—— Hazard analysis and risk assessment;
—— Integration and testing of the entire vehicle;
—— Safety confirmation.
This document applies to safety-related systems that include one or more electrical/electronic systems installed on mass-produced road vehicles except mopeds.
This document does not apply to specific electrical/electronic systems in special-purpose vehicles, such as vehicle systems designed for disabled drivers.
Note: Other dedicated safety standards can be used as supplements to this document, and vice versa.
Systems and their components that have already been released for production or are being developed before the publication of this document are not applicable to this document. When changes are made to systems and their components that have been released for production before the publication of this document, this document tailors the activities of the safety life cycle based on these changes. When integrating systems not developed in accordance with this document with systems developed in accordance with this document, the safety life cycle needs to be tailored in accordance with this document.
This document addresses possible hazards caused by functional abnormalities of safety-related electrical/electronic systems, including possible hazards caused by the interaction of these systems. This document does not address hazards related to electric shock, fire, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, reactivity, corrosivity, energy release, etc., unless the hazards are directly caused by functional abnormalities of safety-related electrical/electronic systems.
