This standard specifies the general requirements for laboratory competence, impartiality, and consistent operation. This standard applies to all organizations engaged in laboratory activities, regardless of the number of their staff. Laboratory clients, statutory regulatory bodies, organizations and programs using peer review, accreditation bodies, and other institutions use this standard to verify or recognize the competence of laboratories.
