This standard specifies the overview of magnetic particle inspection methods, inspection equipment, magnetic particle materials, determination of the performance and sensitivity of the inspection system, sample preparation, inspection conditions and procedures, types of magnetizing current, magnetic field strength, evaluation and acceptance of inspection results, inspectors, artificial standard test blocks, and artificial standard test pieces, etc. This standard is applicable to the inspection of ferritic steel for surface or near-surface flaws and other defects.
