This document describes the method for verifying the power characteristics of a single horizontal-axis wind turbine generator unit, excluding small wind turbine generators covered by IEC 61400-2. This document is used when the specific operating conditions or contractual requirements do not meet the requirements set forth in IEC 61400-12-1. This document is suitable for evaluating the power characteristics of specific wind turbine generators in specific geographical locations, as well as for conducting routine comparisons of wind turbine generators of different types or configurations.
This document aims to provide a unified method for testing, analyzing, and reporting the power characteristics of a single wind turbine generator using nacelle anemometers. This document is only applicable to large-scale horizontal-axis wind turbine generators, where nacelle anemometers do not significantly affect the airflow through the wind turbine generator blades and around the nacelle, thereby not affecting the wind turbine generator's characteristics. This document is intended for use when the requirements set forth in IEC 61400-12-1 are not met. This ensures the consistency, accuracy, and reproducibility of test results under the current level of testing technology and testing equipment.
This document describes how to characterize the power characteristics of wind turbine generators in terms of measuring power curves and estimating annual electricity generation, and provides considerations for calculating uncertainties during single-unit power performance testing related to full-field wind turbine generators. This document also provides guidance for estimating synthetic uncertainties when testing multiple wind turbine generators.
