This standard establishes guidelines for selecting terms and concepts in geographic information standards, specifies the structure of term records, and explains the principles of writing term definitions, serving as a guide for collecting and maintaining terms in the field of geographic information.
This standard can also be used as a guide for maintaining term databases (see Appendix A).
