Scope

This standard specifies a general method for determining the reducing potassium permanganate in samples using direct methods (visual colorimetry) and indirect methods (titration analysis). The direct method of this standard is applicable to the determination of reducing potassium permanganate in neutral alcohols, ketones, or other neutral, weakly acidic or alkaline samples when the content of reducing potassium permanganate is relatively low; the indirect method is applicable to the determination of samples with a high content of reducing potassium permanganate or samples in which the reaction between reducing potassium permanganate and potassium permanganate is difficult to carry out.
