Scope

This standard specifies the gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry method for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in soil and sediments. This standard is applicable to the determination of 2-brominated diphenyl ether, 3-brominated diphenyl ether, 2,5-dibrominated diphenyl ether, 2,6-dibrominated diphenyl ether, 4,4'-dibrominated diphenyl ether, 2,4,6-tribrominated diphenyl ether, 2,2',4,5'-tetrabrominated diphenyl ether, 2,2',5,5'-tetrabrominated diphenyl ether, 3,3',4,4'-tetrabrominated diphenyl ether, 2,2',4,5',6-pentabrominated diphenyl ether, 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexabrominated diphenyl ether, 2,2',4,4',5,6'-hexabrominated diphenyl ether, 2,3,3',4,4',5-hexabrominated diphenyl ether, 3,3',4,4',5,5'-hexabrominated diphenyl ether, 2,2',3,4,4',5,5'-heptabrominated diphenyl ether, 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',6-octabrominated diphenyl ether, and 2,3,3',4,4',5,5',6,6'-nonabrominated diphenyl ether, among other 20 types of polybrominated diphenyl ethers in soil and sediments. When the sample quantity is 10.0 g and the volume of the sample solution is 50 μl, the detection limits for the determination of one to ten brominated diphenyl ethers by this standard are 0.01 μg/kg to 0.1 μg/kg, and the lower limits of quantification are 0.04 μg/kg to 0.4 μg/kg. For details, see Appendix A.
