GB/T 9286-2021 Paints and varnishes—Cross-cut test
Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies a test method for evaluating the resistance of coatings (including wood stains) to detachment from the substrate by cutting the coating with a right-angle grid pattern and penetrating to the substrate. The performance tested by this empirical test procedure depends on the adhesion of the coating to the previous coating or the substrate, and is also influenced by various other factors. However, this is not a method for testing adhesion.
Note 1: If adhesion needs to be tested, refer to the method described in ISO 4624.
Note 2: Although this test is mainly suitable for laboratory use, it can also be used for on-site testing.
The described method can be used as a pass/fail test, or, if appropriate, as a six-level grading test. When used in multi-coating systems, it can be used to evaluate the resistance of each coating in the system to detachment from the other coatings.
This test can be conducted on finished products or specially prepared samples.
Although this test method is suitable for coatings applied to hard substrates (such as metal) and soft substrates (such as wood and plaster), different substrates require different test procedures (see Chapter 8).
This test method is not suitable for coatings with a total dry film thickness of more than 250 μm, nor for textured coatings.
Note: When the method is used for coatings with a pattern of uneven surface, the results obtained may have significant deviations (see ISO 16276-2).
