Scope

This standard specifies the evaluation method of the influence of pressure, temperature, and line speed on the friction coefficient of friction materials for a given specified pair (brake disc or brake drum).
This standard is applicable to the comparison of friction materials under the same conditions, or when there is a lack of control specifications for friction materials and when specifying the performance of friction materials or restricting the performance of certain friction materials. Considering the cooling systems of different types of inertia test benches and ensuring reproducible temperature increments, the brake temperature is a controlled item during the decay test. The selected brake and brake disc are determined according to the project.
In mass production verification tests, the test results can be combined with statistical process control as part of a quality assurance plan. Specific projects or plans refine their scope of application and evaluation criteria.
This standard allows for an increase in the number of test units and brake applications during the product development phase.
