Scope

This standard specifies a method for determining the sound power level or sound energy level of a noise source by measuring the sound pressure level on a measurement surface surrounding the sound source (machine or equipment) in an approximate free sound field environment near one or more reflecting planes. These measurements are used to calculate the frequency band or A-weighted sound power level (or the sound energy level in the case of impulse noise or transient noise) generated by the noise source.
Note: Different measurement surfaces of a given noise source may yield different estimates of the sound power level, and a noise test procedure (see GB/T 19052) provides detailed information on the selection of measurement surfaces.
