Scope

This document provides general guidelines for fire hazard assessment, covering how to reduce the fire risk and potential impact of electrical and electronic products to an acceptable level, serving as a guide for the remaining parts of GB/T 5169.
This document does not provide guidance on how to use fire compartments or detection and suppression systems to reduce fire hazards.
This document explains the relationship between fire risk and potential fire impact, and provides guidance for product standardization committees on the applicability of qualitative and quantitative fire tests in assessing the fire hazard of electrical and electronic products. The calculation of fire risk is beyond the scope of this document.
This document emphasizes the importance of fire scenarios in fire hazard and risk assessment, and discusses guidelines for the technical development of methods used to determine fire hazards.
This document also discusses different types of fire tests, particularly qualitative and quantitative fire tests. It also describes the maintenance and development of qualitative fire tests applicable to product standardization committees.
This document is intended for product committees to use in preparing standards in accordance with the principles set out in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.
One of the tasks of product committees is to use this series of standards where applicable when preparing standards in this field. Unless specifically mentioned or listed in the relevant standards, the requirements, test methods, or test conditions of this document will not apply.
