Scope

This document specifies the sample sizes, sample preparation, test procedures, and evaluation methods for external load thermal cracking tests, including hot tensile tests, adjustable restraint tests, and transverse adjustable restraint tests, as well as program-controlled flat plate tensile tests. This document is applicable to the thermal cracking sensitivity evaluation of austenitic stainless steel, nickel and nickel-based alloys, nickel-copper alloy base metals, and welding materials. If agreed upon by both parties in the contract, this document may also be referenced for other materials such as aluminum alloys and high-strength steels.
