Scope

This document specifies the conceptual model for observation and the sampling elements involved. It provides an information exchange model for describing observation activities and their results within and among different scientific communities.
Observation typically involves sampling of the elements of interest. This document specifies a set of common sampling element types, primarily classified by topological dimensions, and samples for remote observation. The model includes the relationships between sampling elements (sub-sampling, derived sampling).
This document only focuses on the visible external interface and does not impose restrictions on internal implementation methods, which is different from the interface specifications aimed at actual environments.
