Scope

Scope: This document specifies the cultivation techniques for high-quality and high-yield melons, including site selection, seedling cultivation, pre-planting preparation, direct sowing, transplanting, field management, timely harvesting, storage, and production management records. This document is applicable to melon cultivation. Main technical content: 1. Terms and definitions: The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 1.1 Single cross training: When the main vine reaches 50 cm, remove all side vines. 1.2 Double cross training: Retain the main vine and select one side vine at the base to grow parallel to the main vine, then remove all side vines. 1.3 Three cross training: Retain the main vine, leave two side vines at the base to grow parallel to the main vine, then remove all side vines. 2. Site selection: The site should be conveniently accessible, far from polluting sources, with high and dry terrain, easy irrigation and drainage, and deep, loose, and fertile sandy loam or loam soil. The soil quality should meet the requirements of GB 15618, and the water quality should meet the requirements of GB 5084. The site must not have been planted with Cucurbitaceae crops for 3–5 years, and fields with severe soil-borne diseases of Cucurbitaceae crops must be rotated for more than 6 years. 3. Seedling cultivation: Follow the provisions of T/YNRZ 025-2022 for seedling cultivation. 4. Pre-planting preparation: 4.1 Deep tillage: Till the soil to a depth of more than 30 cm. 4.2 Base fertilization: Apply 3,000–4,000 kg/mu of composted organic fertilizer or 1,000–2,000 kg/mu of commercial organic fertilizer, and 40–50 kg/mu of triple compound fertilizer (20:20:20). After spreading the fertilizer, use a rotary tiller to mix it thoroughly with the soil.
