Scope

This document provides guidance and recommendations for the safe operation of high-power laser manufacturing equipment. It outlines the equipment documentation and records, the assessment of installation and use environments, the evaluation of laser radiation hazards, the assessment of non-laser radiation hazards, the inspection of labels and markings, the inspection of control measures, and information related to key considerations in the roles of laser safety officers, laser safety management committees, and safety training. This document applies to Class 3B or Class 4 laser products intended for industrial manufacturing, as well as those not intended for industrial manufacturing but that may be used by users under reasonable conditions for manufacturing purposes, including manufacturing equipment embedded with Class 3B or Class 4 laser sources. This document does not apply to laser products used for purposes such as entertainment, demonstrations, calibration, measurement, education, and medical applications.
