Scope

This standard specifies a method for determining the average relative molecular mass and content of alkyl monosulfonates in industrial alkyl sulfonates containing only trace amounts of alkanes.
This standard is applicable to all alkali metal salts of alkyl sulfonyl chlorides and sulfonyl oxides.
In order to apply the direct two-phase titration method to determine the content of alkyl monosulfonates, it is necessary to know the average relative molecular mass of alkyl monosulfonates. When determining the average molecular mass of a typical sample, the content of alkyl monosulfonates in the sample is also determined at the same time.
