Scope

This document specifies the requirements for determining the maximum propulsion rated power of powerboats with a hull length (LH, as defined in ISO 8666) of less than 8 m using the method of controlling speed.
This section does not apply to:
—— Personal boats as defined in ISO 13590;
—— Kayaks and rowing boats;
—— Inflatable boats as defined in ISO 6185-1, ISO 6185-2, ISO 6185-3, and ISO 6185-4, except for rigid inflatable boats that meet the requirements of ISO 6185-3 and have a maximum speed of not less than 30 knots when tested in accordance with this document;
—— Racing boats: boats designed and built specifically for competition.
This document does not specify the structural strength requirements of the boat related to the maximum propulsion rated power, and does not guarantee the stability of the boat under all conditions such as water, wind, current, and waves.
