Scope

This document specifies the photobiological safety assessment of electric light sources and lamps under normal use conditions, as well as some basic product requirements. It applies to electric light sources and lamps that primarily emit radiation within the visible light spectrum (380 nm~780 nm) and are used for space and object illumination or as signal devices.
Electric light sources and lamps designed to emit visible light also emit ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation, depending on the technology used. Therefore, this document covers the hazards of light radiation in the wavelength range of 200 nm~3,000 nm, including retinal blue light hazard, retinal thermal hazard, photochemical UV radiation hazard, A-band UV radiation hazard, ocular IR radiation hazard, and skin radiation thermal hazard.
This document does not include electric light sources and lamps that primarily emit radiation outside the visible light spectrum (380 nm~780 nm), such as UV disinfectors or industrial heaters.
Electric light sources used for illumination purposes are evaluated as continuous light sources for photobiological safety assessment, including those employing pulse width modulation (PWM).
This document also applies to the illumination functions of multifunctional lighting devices, which have functions beyond illumination. Non-illumination functions refer to other standards.
This document also applies to light sources and lamps that emit visible light without restricting the presence of people (e.g., horticulture).
This document also applies to laser products that meet the conditions of GB/T 7247.1-2024 Section 4.4 and are used for illumination or signaling.
