GB/T 31412-2015 Binders for paints and varnishes—Determination of hydroxyl value—Titrimetric method

Scope

This standard specifies the titration method for determining the free hydroxyl groups in paint bases and paint base solutions used for color paints and varnishes. These hydroxyl groups may exist in the form of polyols, partial esters, polyester end groups, or hydroxyl fatty acids. This standard is not applicable to resins containing both hydroxyl and epoxy groups, as the latter are also included in the results. This standard is also not applicable to nitrocellulose or phenolic resins. Note: If only the hydroxyl value of the paint base needs to be determined in the paint base solution, the hydroxyl groups that may be present in other components of the paint base solution must be taken into account. The method for determining the hydroxyl value of epoxy resins is carried out in accordance with the provisions of ISO 7142:2007.
