Scope

This document describes the measurement methods for the maximum sound pressure levels generated by headphones and personal music players used by consumers, including the measurement methods for devices or headphones used with headphones, and combinations of headphones and personal music players provided as a set and connected via wired or wireless universal interfaces.
This document is applicable to the design, manufacture, and inspection of headphones and personal music players that can be connected to headphones used by consumers.
This document is not applicable to high-fidelity home equipment powered by AC, monitoring headphones, headphones used for medical purposes (hearing difficulties, etc.), or headphones and bone conduction headphones used as part of active hearing protection devices.
Note: Other safety requirements, such as noise protection in office or industrial environments, are not affected by this document.
