GB/T 28022-2021 Age determination guidelines for toys

Scope

This document provides guidelines for determining the minimum age at which children can start playing with toys in specific sub-categories, primarily to guide manufacturers and institutions assessing whether toys meet safety standards.
This document can also be used as a reference to determine the applicability of the minimum age group for toys, and is intended for distributors, institutions and organizations studying children's play behavior, as well as for pediatric societies, teachers, other professionals who use toys in their daily activities, and consumers.
This document applies to all toys, that is, all products and materials designed or intended for children under the age of 14 to play with.
The age at which each child develops different abilities varies. This document only provides typical age groups for children to learn a specific skill.
Although age ratings imply safety, this document is not intended to address specific safety requirements. Specific safety requirements for toys can be found in GB 6675.1 and/or other relevant toy safety standards. For example, these standards limit the presence of small parts and balls that pose a choking hazard in toys for specific age groups.
Appendix B provides detailed information on how to consider electronic toys and electronic devices in toys when developing age determination guidelines.
