Scope

This standard specifies the method for determining the sulfur content in fuels by potentiometric titration.
This standard is applicable to gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel, and distillate fuels. The measurement range of the mass fraction of mercaptan sulfur is 0.0003% to 0.01%. Organic sulfur compounds, such as sulfides, disulfides, and thiophenes, do not interfere with the measurement. Elemental sulfur with a mass fraction of less than 0.0005% does not interfere with the measurement. If hydrogen sulfide is not removed, it will interfere with the measurement. The removal of hydrogen sulfide is described in Section 8.2.
